It was 2007 and I had just experienced the two best income- generating years of my life, earning a multiple six- figure income.  Buyers were moving to the area in droves and sellers were getting top dollar for their properties. Values were skyrocketing and our team of agents was excelling beyond expectation.

Then it hit, like a tsunami we didn’t see coming.  The banks stopped loaning money… values took a steep nosedive… buyers scattered like cats in a field of mice… and sellers were stuck holding under valued properties.

Desperation set in.

Blinded by foolish pride I continued on, changing our business model several times in an attempt to keep our team together and growing.

I didn’t want to “quit”.

But it was too late. Inventory exploded… prices plummeted… and demand left town on the midnight train.  Our dreams of multiple streams of income were mythical…

“What did I do wrong?”,  I wondered.  I was bitter, blaming the real estate industry for my failure.

After months of feeling sorry for myself and looking for a new way to support my family, it finally hit me. The Real Estate industry wasn’t the problem, I was.

Some serious self examination and reflection helped me see that I needed to take responsibility for my actions.  It was time to take ownership of every decision I’ve made in my life and accept the results.

You see, the declining real estate market and lack of income were only a small part of our problems.  We were facing a mountain of medical debt as a result of my wife’s serious health issues and premature birth of our twins.

It was the most difficult and stressful time of our lives.

The financial stress was overwhelming.

Debt was multiplying and our income was limited.  We rarely slept, barely able to get any rest between baby feedings.  The stress was almost unbearable.

And I was frightened.

Frightened that for the first time in my life I couldn’t do the one fundamental thing I was put on this earth to do,  provide for my family.

As a man, husband and father, all I ever wanted to do was take care of my family and spend time with them on my terms.

I was suffocating and there was no answer in sight.

Finally, tired of the self pity and negative conversations going on in my mind, I decided it was time to own up… admit my mistakes… take responsibility… and open my mind to new possibilities.

So I went to work dissecting and analyzing what worked and what didn’t in our real estate business.  I wanted to learn from my mistakes and take the positive and apply that to a new venture… whatever that may be.

Our real estate business was successful because we became students of internet marketing, solving the lead generation problem that plagues 99% of all agents.  In fact, we mastered one strategy (Pay per Click) and that was all we needed to separate ourselves from the local competition.

… that “fateful click” that changed everything…

One day as I was searching home business opportunities online, I clicked on a well- designed banner ad created by an entrepreneur named John.  He was talking about how his mentor, Mike Dillard, had coached him to replace his income from his full- time job in 23 days.
